ABOUT US
During COVID-19 Gemma Blackhurst (founder) was providing residents who were unable to put food on the table for their family with food parcels. She then began to provide and assist other members at the newly established Failsworth Food Hub to issue food parcels to the residents of Failsworth whilst still supporting the families she had initially assisted.
Failsworth Food Hub closed around August 2020 and those residents who had been accessing the Food Hub began to contact Gemma directly seeking food parcels and assistance. It was clearly evident that there was still a major demand to support people with food parcels. Gemma realised that her house could no longer store the amount of donations being received on a daily basis. This is when Breaking the Waves Foundation was founded.
Now people are kindly donating clothes, toys, non essential items and also furniture. We had to source adequate storage facilities and are now currently supporting 25 families per week and this is still growing week on week. Our vision is to support those that are in financial difficulties, this could be by way of a weekly food parcel. We also gift, where requested items of clothing, toys and small household items. Breaking The Waves Foundation mission is that we will ride the storm together.
